Health visiting - Start for Life support services

We work to improve the health and wellbeing of children and families in the crucial first years of life. Our Health Visiting teams offer friendly support and advice, and we work closely with GPs, midwives, school nurses and the wider local community.

We provide the Healthy Child Programme to ensure a healthy start for your child, ongoing support for parents, and access to a range of community-based services and resources. We offer a universal service to all children and families, which includes:

• A visit and check when your baby is 10-14 days old
• A review for you and your baby at 6-8 weeks carried out by your
  GP/Health Visitor
• A 10-12 month health review
• A 2-2 ½ year review, usually carried out by a nursery nurse

We provide support with:

• Breastfeeding
• Growth and development
• Sleep
• Behaviour
• Healthy weight and physical activity
• Emotional health and wellbeing
• School readiness

There are 8 Health Visiting Teams across the City of Coventry. These Teams supports families in the city from the Antenatal period until the child reaches the age of 5. The Health Visiting Teams consist of Health Visitors (Specialist Public Health Nurses), Community Staff Nurses, Nursery Nurses and Administration Staff. We carry out home visits to assess the family’s holistic health needs and support those needs. In the first five years we carry out antenatal contact, new birth visit, 6-8 week review, 9-12 month development review and 30-36 month development review. We also support families that have complex needs and are working with partners agencies to help meet those needs. We hold clinics throughout the city, and we have Zoom Introduction to solids groups, Sleep Clinic and the Together We Can Group. We work with both local authority and charity groups. Our Service provides up to date NHS evidence-based advice for you and your family.
