Diesel smoke is a major source of air pollution in towns and cities. You can report vehicles producing high amounts of smoke in Coventry.
The Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) can take action against lorries (HGV) and buses (PSV), and have the vehicle checked.
If you see a bus or lorry giving off large amounts of smoke, contact VOSA [https://www.gov.uk/report-smoky-vehicle] on 0300 123 9000 and give them the following information:
- Vehicle registration
- Vehicle description - make, model, colour
- Company name (if visible)
- Road name or number and date and time when you saw the vehicle.
It is normal for diesel engines to give off a little smoke when starting from cold and when accelerating. Please only report vehicles that are producing large amounts of smoke continuously.
