Newly arrived children to the UK - information for parents

Welcome

Coventry's Ethnic Minority Achievement Service (EMAS) helps families who arrive in the city from overseas.

This is how we can help you and your family

Our Access to Education Team will help you find a school place for your children, contact details below.

When you phone us we will ask you these questions:

• What is your family name?
• What is your address in Coventry?
• What is your contact telephone number?
• What are the names of the children who need school places?
• What language or languages do you and your children speak?
• Is there anyone in your family who can speak English? 

Once you have answered these questions, an Access to Education Officer will call you and make an appointment to complete an application for a school place 

For this call, make sure that your children and their identification documents are in the house with you. The officers need to make sure that the children are who you say they are and that they are safe.

These documents include:

• Passports
• ID cards
• Visas
• Birth certificates

During this call you can tell the officers:

• Which school you would like your children to go to
• If your children have any special needs - educational, religious or health
• What your concerns might be about your children starting a new school in Coventry
• Anything else that you want the officers to know

If your child/children have any Special Educational Needs, the following form will be completed and the information will be shared with our Statutory Assessment and Review Team (START)

Your children can get help with their learning in school

Don't be worried if your children can't speak English yet. We have experienced teachers who advise schools so that your children make good progress. Our teachers have lots of great ideas for schools to use to help your children learn and enjoy school.

We train teachers to understand how to teach newly arrived pupils well. We also tell schools how they can welcome new families and make them feel safe and valued.

Your children's school might ask for help from our Multilingual Assistants (MLAs)

Multilingual Assistants help pupils in schools when they have little or no English. They work in the classroom explaining and translating the lessons into a language your child can understand.

Some of the MLAs languages are:

• Polish
• Romanian
• Arabic
• Italian
• Portuguese
• Spanish
• Dari

MLAs also do these things:

• Show new parents like you and your children around school
• Help your children learn some English language straight away
• Give teachers cultural and linguistic information about your children that will help in the lessons 
• Help pupils in Years 7 to 13 learn their subject teacher's name, the timetable and the geography of the school
• Meet your family with a member of school staff if you or they want to talk about your children's school
• Translate for you during parents' evenings
• Explain homework tasks to you if you're not sure what the school wants

All our Multilingual Assistants receive comprehensive induction training before they begin their work in schools. They are all DBS cleared and all have Level 1 Safeguarding training.

Często zadają Państwo pytanie:“Jak poradzi sobie nasze dziecko w nowej szkole, przecież nie mówi po angielsku?”. 

Pragniemy upewniċ Państwa, Å¼e dysponujemy liczbą przeszkolonych, doskonale 

przygotowanych nauczycieli, którzy będą w kontakcie z nową szkołą i dołożą 

wszelkich starań, Å¼eby Państwa pociecha zaaklimatyzowała się i polubiła angielską

szkołę,ale nie tylko to, będą również czuwaċ nad tym, aby dziecko szybko 

opanowało nowy  język. 

Szkolimy pod tym kątem wybranych nauczycieli i również doradzamy szkole, jak 

pracowaċ z rodzicami, aby i oni czuli się dobrze w tej nowej roli. 

Jeśli Państwa dziecko nie mówi po angielsku lub mówi bardzo słabo, może otrzymaċpomoc od tzw. Multilingual Assistent (MLA), czyli po prostu, tlumacza, który 

posługuje się, zarówno językiem angielskim, jak i językiem ojczystym ucznia. 

Tłumacze- asystenci są obecni podczas lekcji, pomagają zrozumieċ jej treśċ. 

Oto niektóre, najbardziej popularne języki, którymi mówią nasi tłumacze-asystenci: 

• Język polski 
• Język rumuński 
• Język holenderski 
• Język portugalski 

• Język hiszpański 
• Język Å‚otewski 

Tłumacze-asystenci (MLAs), również: 

• Pomagają zapoznaċ się ze szkołą. 
• Uczą dziecko podstawowych słówek angielskich. 

• Zapoznają nauczyciela z kulturowymi i lingwistycznymi problemami, jeśli takie występują. 
• Informują nauczyciela o mocnych i słabych stronach ucznia. 
• Umożliwiają komunikację uczeń-nauczyciel, informują jednocześnie 

o stopniu zaawansowania mowy ojczystej. 

• Pomagają nowo wstępującym w mury szkół Å›rednich (klasy7- 13), zapoznaċ się z nauczycielami, przedmiotami i szkołą. 
• Zapewniają pomoc językową podczas zebrań klasowych i spotkań rodzice –nauczyciel. 

• Wyjaśniają zwiłości prac domowych. 

Wszyscy nasi tłumacze-asystenci otrzymują przed rozpoczęciem

pracy obowiązkowe szkolenie, muszą przedstawiċ swiadectwo o niekaralności, 

i przejśċ podstawowy trening na temat bezpieczeństwa dzieci. 

Jeśli ktoś z Państwa biegle posługuje się językiem ojczystym i angielskim, to może znaleźć pracę w naszych szeregach jako MLA – Tłumacz-asystent.

EMAS może również zaoferowaċ uczniom kontunuację nauki języka ojczystego w

małych grupach na terenie szkoły angielskiej.  

Zajęcia są prowadzone po: arabsku, chińsku, persku, grecku, w gudżarati, pendżabi, po włosku, po polsku, i po portugalsku. 

W Coventry istnieją również szkoły sobotnie i popołudniowe, 

które zapewniają naukę języka ojczystego, przygotowując jednocześnie do wielu 

egzaminów językowych na terenie Zjednoczonego Królestwa, takich jak GCSE i A Levels.

خدمة انجاز الأقليات تساعد الاف من العائلات القادمة من الخارج الى كوفنترى.

  نساعد العائلات كالاتى:

يساعدك فريق العمل على ايجاد مدارس للأطفال فور وصولك الى كوفنترى

و سوف نسألك عدة أسئلة :

•Ù…ا هى اسم العائلة؟

•Ù…ا هوعنوان المنزل فى كوفنتري؟

•Ù…ا هو رقم التليفون؟

•Ù…ا هى اسماء الأولاد و من منهم  يريد أماكن فى المدرسة؟

•Ù…اهى لغتك و لغة و الأطفال التى تتحدثونها؟

• هل يوجد أحد بالعائلة يتكلم اللغة الإنجليزية؟

بمجرد الإجابة على هذه الأسئلة سوف يقوم فريق العمل بالإتصال بك و يحدد ميعاد للزيارة فى المنزل. خلال هذه الزيارة يجب ان يتواجد الاوراق الرسمية للاطفال و أولياء الأمور حتى يتأكد فريق العمل ان الأطفال فى أمان.

فى المقابلة يتم مناقشة عدة اشياء ومنها:

•Ù…ا هى المدرسة التى تريدها؟

•Ø§Ø°Ø§ كان ابنك أو ابنتك من ذوي الإحتياجات الخاصة أو لديه أمر ما من الناحية التعليمية أو الدينية أو الصحية و ماهى الامور التى تهمك وتريد ان تشير اليها قبل دخول الاطفال المدرسة.

•ÙŠÙ…كن مناقشة اى شئ اخر تريد ان تقوله لفريق العمل.

لاتقلق اذا كان ابنك أو ابنتك لا يتكلم اللغة الإنجليزية بعد، فلدينا مدرسين لغة متعددين يقوموا بتعليم أولادكم اللغة الانجليزية. و لديهم الكثير من الأفكار التى يقدمونها للمدارس لاستخدامها فى سبيل مساعدة ابنائكم على التعلم و الاستمتاع بالمدرسة.

هؤلاء المدرسين تم تدريبهم على كيفية تعليم التلاميذ الجديدة القادمة من الخارج و نبلغ أيضا المدرسة كيف ترحب بالعائلات الجديدة و كيف تجعلهم يشعرون بالأمان و بقيمتهم. يتلقى ابنائكم مساعدة أيضا من قبل مدرسين متعددين اللغة و هم يساعدون التلاميذ التى لا تتكلم الانجليزية فى المدارس و يساعدونهم فى الفصل و يترجمون و يشرحون الدروس للتلميذ حتى يفهم كل شئ.

بعض المدرسين يتحدثون اللغات الاتية:

المدرسين متعددي اللغة يقوموا بعدة اشياء و منها:

بجولة حول المدرسة مع اولياء الامور.

الاولاد فى تعلم اللغة بشكل سريع.

  المدرسين فكرة عن بعد الخلفيات الثقافية المختلفة و معلومات عن مدارس اولادكم السابقة و ماهى نقاط القوى و الضعف عند ابنك أو ابنتك من الناحية التعليمية واذا كان لديه أمنيات أو مخاوف بخصوص المدرسة و هل الطفل قادر على التحدث بلغته فى البيت.

التلاميذ من الصف السابع الى الثالث عشرة على التعرف على المواد و جدول المواعيد و على طبيعية المدرسة.

بحضور المقابلات بين المعلم وولى الامر لمناقشة اى مشاكل يواجهها ابنك أو ابنتك و يقوموا ايضا بترجمة اجتماع أولياء الامور وشرح الواجبات المطلوبة من المدرسة لأولياء الأمور.

جميع المدرسين ذوي خبرة و تم تدريبهم قبل البدء فى العمل فى المدارس و تم تدريبهم على دورات كيفية حماية الأطفال و لديهم تصريح بالعمل فى المدارس.

ادا كنت تتكلم لغة اخرى بطلاقة و تتكلم اللغة الانجليزية جيدا فيمكن ان تصبح مثل هؤلاء المدرسين فيمكن ان تقدم فى احدى الوظائف التى يتم إعلانها على هذا الموقع

و كثير من اللغات فى هذه الدورات اللغوية يمكن ان تتعلمها فى كوفنترى و تبدأ بعد اليوم الدراسي و فى أيام العطلة و أولادكم سوف يتلقون المساعدة من قبل المعلمين فى المدرسة.

Settlement Team (Echipa de Stabilire) vă va ajuta să găsiți locuri la școală pentru copii.

Când ne veți telefona vă vom cere următoarele :

După ce avem aceste informații, un membru al echipei de stabilire (Access to Education Officer - Ofițer de Stabilire) vă va suna pentru a face programarea unei vizite la domiciliu.

Să va asigurați că aveți documentele cu dvs și că vor fi acasă copiii în timpul vizitei

Membrii echipei (ofițerii) trebuie să se asigure de identitatea copiilor, și că sunt în siguranță.

În cazul în care copiii dvs nu vorbesc Engleză încă, nu vă îngrijorați . Avem învățători experimentați care lucrează cu școlile sa ii ajute pe copiii dvs să progreseze. Învățătorii noștri au multe idei bune de care școlile se folosesc astfel incât copiii să învețe și să se bucure de școală .

Instruim învățătorii din școli să înțeleagă cum să le predea adecvat copiilor nou- veniți . De asemenea, ajutăm școlile să primească familii noi, și să le facă să se simtă în siguranță și apreciate.

Copiii dvs pot fi ajutați de către ' Asistenții Multilingvisti' (MLA - Multilingual Assistant)

Multilingual Assistants ajută elevii care știu puțină/deloc Engleză. Ei lucrează în clasa, explicând și traducând lecțiile in limba pe care copilul o înțelege.

Câteva din limbile vorbite de MLA sunt :

ü    Punctele forțe sau materiile-problema ale copiilor

ü    Speranțe sau griji pe care le-ar avea copiii legate de școală nouă

ü    Cât de bine vorbesc copiii în limba lor maternă

Toți MLA noștri sunt instruiți înainte să înceapă să lucreze în școli. Cazierul le este verificat și primesc instruire de salvgardare de Nivel 1 (Level 1 Safeguarding).
