Why we collect and use personal data about you

We use this information to:
- Safeguard victims.
- Pursue and prosecute perpetrators.
- Disrupt crime.
- Fulfil our legal obligations under the Modern Slavery Act 2015.
- Provide you with necessary and appropriate services.
- Help us to develop and improve our services.
- Complete statistical returns to Government departments.
Consent is not required for referrals to the Council’s Modern Slavery Team. We process your personal data to fulfil our legal duty to notify the Home Office of modern slavery victims (s. 52 of Modern Slavery Act 2015). In the prevention and detection of crime (s.115 Crime and Disorder Act 1998). To protect victims or others from serious harm or matter of life or death (GDPR art.6 & 9). For a public task (vital interests – protection or life and bringing perpetrators to justice). To uphold the right to be free from torture or inhuman or degrading treatment (Human Rights Act, Articles 2 & 3). To prevent abuse and neglect (Care Act 2014).

How long will we keep your information?
We will only keep your information for as long as we need to so we can give you the service you need, unless we must keep it for legal reasons.
Your rights

- Ask us to limit the way we use your personal Information
- Ask for human intervention regarding decisions made about you by a computer

Complaints
You have the right to submit a complaint if you are unhappy with the way your request is handled or disagree with a decision made by the council regarding your data. In these circumstances you can contact the Data Protection Team (DPO) and request a review of the decision.
