About the Children's Mental Health system
If you're in crisis
If people have physically harmed themselves, if their life is at immediate risk or if they feel they are unable to keep themselves or someone else safe, then they should call 999 or go to A&E.
If someone is having a mental health crisis, but their life is not at immediate risk, they can access the local mental health crisis line by calling 111 and selecting ‘mental health option’. It can also be accessed online via 111.nhs.uk [https://111.nhs.uk].
For people who are deaf or have hearing loss, use the following link to be connected to local crisis service – NHS 111 – SignVideo [https://signvideo.co.uk/nhs111/].
Anyone can call for themselves or someone else can call for them. NHS 111 is for all ages, including children and young people and those with neurodevelopmental needs.
If a person is not in a mental health crisis, but feels they need mental health support, they should begin by making an appointment with their local GP.
For health and care professionals, the Mental Health Access Hub number will remain open for use: 08081 966798.
