#CovConnects have been working in partnership with Coventry Resource Centre for the Blind to support older adults in Coventry to feel digitally included through the use of an accessible computer room.
Coventry Resource Centre for the Blind (CRCB) is a registered charity that provide practical, emotional and social support to help blind and partially sighted adults from across Coventry to cope with vision loss.
The newly upgraded computer room at CRCB's venue in Earlsdon, acts as a safe space for residents to interact with digital technology in ways which are meaningful for them as individuals. Additionally, residents can socialise, and meet other like-minded people.
Residents have been using the computer room for a variety of ways, from accessing an Open University course, to online shopping, entertainment, and more!
Funding for CRCB's accessible computer room came via a grant from the #CovConnects West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) Adaptive Fund, which is part of the WMCA's Connected Services Programme.
Chris Norman, Service Development Officer and Volunteer Coordinator at CRCB, told us:
"CRCB is extremely grateful to #CovConnects. Before this, our computers were starting to show their age. Now that we have shiny new ones, not only can our computer users continue to enjoy the sessions that they have come to rely on, but our old hardware can start a second life in the homes of service users who could not otherwise afford to buy their own PC."
CRCB offers computer sessions for people living with sight loss each week:
- Mondays, 10am - 12noon
- Tuesdays, 10am - 2pm
- Thursdays, 10am - 12noon
