#CovConnects is working in partnership with the Supported Families Programme and Early Help Workers to provide families with laptops, smartphones and National Databank SIM Cards.

Digital exclusion is a real barrier for many families in Coventry, making it difficult for them to access services, employment and education, and stay connected to others. By providing families with support and equipment, this pilot programme hopes to support them to overcome those barriers.

As well as receiving the recycled Coventry City Council laptop, families will receive a ‘Welcome to your laptop!’ guide on the basics of using a laptop and the internet. They will also be supported by Early Help team members to learn digital skills that help them meet their family's needs.

Parents will also access an Internet Safety Workshop taught by Prevent, an all-age early intervention service within the council, which covers the basics of how to stay safe when browsing, as well as useful information to make sure that their children stay safe when gaming online.

Supporting Families launched in March 2021 and builds on the previous Troubled Families programme. It aims to build the resilience of vulnerable families, and make sure every area has joined up, efficient local services which are able to identify families in need and provide the right support at the right time.

Supporting Families helps thousands of families across England to get the help they need to address their issues. The programme takes a whole family approach and is delivered by keyworkers, working for local authorities and their partners.

Working with the Supported Families Programme and Early Help Workers allows #CovConnects to help some of our more vulnerable residents in a wholly positive way.
