When the death has occurred
The period following the death of a loved one is probably the most distressing time in our lives, yet it is also when a number of decisions have to be made about the funeral ceremony, which will have an effect on family, friends and colleagues.
It is, of course, important for people making arrangements to know that they are being helped by a professional team and we aim for our service to be informative, considerate, confidential, and understanding.
You can ask us for advice or help if you are:
- a relative,
- a family friend,
- an owner/manager of a private/Council nursing or residential home,
- a Funeral Director may advise a person to contact us before making funeral arrangements.
When you contact us, the Bereavement Officer will:
- arrange to meet you (if after verbal consultation you are considered to be eligible).
- advise if we can give financial help and if so how.
- advise you of your responsibility towards funeral costs (see details below).
- complete forms as appropriate.
- help and advise you in making arrangements for the funeral.
- work with the Funeral Director appointed by us.
- give options for financial assistance if we are unable to help.
