The Columbarium
Columbarium Niches
At the entrance to the Gardens of Remembrance, you will find the ivy walled Columbarium, which looks out upon the lily pond.
We have niches of various sizes. Although caskets of cremated remains are held in a niche, they are the responsibility of the leaseholder. Sometimes a surviving partner or relative will keep the cremated remains of their loved one in a niche until they can be scattered or buried together. On the face of the niche cover, there is room for an inscription to remember your loved one/s. These niches are only available at the Canley Garden Cemetery and Crematorium,
At the end of the lease, we will contact you and offer the option, for a further fee, to extend the lease. Alternatively, the cremated remains can be scattered or interred as you wish.
Stone Recordia
The remaining walls and pillars of the columbarium are covered in marble and inscriptions are carved into the stone face.
Leather Recordia Plaques
A wall in the chapel of remembrance is dedicated to Leather Recordia Plaques.
These plaques are black leather and inscribed in gold lettering. The plaques are secured in a cherry wood frame. You can remember your loved one with their name and two further lines to place a personal tribute.

Gardens of Remembrance
The Gardens of Remembrance are a peaceful and tranquil environment where you can spend time to reflect and remember a loved one.
The Gardens of Remembrance consist of several different areas including the Traditional Rose Garden, Seasonal areas, The Pond and The Woodlands.
The gardens are designed as a place of peace and tranquillity. They not only provide a fitting resting place for your loved one but are also intended to be enjoyed by the whole community. Those seeking the solace of quiet contemplation and those who
appreciate the beauty of well-maintained gardens are very welcome to visit.
Following the cremation, you may wish for the cremated remains of your loved one to be strewn in the Gardens of Remembrance.
There are various different types of memorialisation within the Gardens of Remembrance including lawn niches, kerb plaques, individual gardens, memorial benches and the Book of Remembrance.
These arrangements can be made through your Funeral Director or directly with Coventry Bereavement Services.
Opening times
The Gardens of Remembrance are open throughout the year.
- Summer: April to September, 8.30am to 9pm
- Winter: October to March, 8.30am to 5pm.
Floral tributes
In order to keep the appearance of the crematorium Gardens of Remembrance in a pleasant condition, we reserve the right to periodically inspect and remove any floral tributes.
We respectfully ask that only cut flowers are placed in the Gardens of Remembrance and that all wrapping and cellophane is removed.
We will remove tributes, which have dried out from the lawns and rose beds approximately every seven days.
Thank you for your co-operation in this matter.

London Road Cemetery baby garden
As you wander around the London Road cemetery you will find the beautiful baby garden. This is a special area which exhibits a memorial statue of a hand cradling a baby. The verse on the memorial statue reads as follows:
I WILL NOT FORGET YOU, I HAVE HELD YOU IN THE PALM OF MY HAND. ISAIAH 45:50
This memorial is dedicated to the everlasting memory of all those babies that have been laid to rest in this cemetery.
It was provided by Coventry City Council in partnership with the local branch of the Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society (SANDS) in 1995.
In this area are memorial trees, memorial benches and kerb plaques made of Indian red granite on a York stone base, similar to those at the Canley Garden Cemetery and Crematorium.
Our highly trained and caring staff are on hand to give you any assistance you may require at this sad time in your life. Please be assured that our staff will endeavour to try their very best to help you and your family.

Memorial planter
Also available we have two Octagon Memorial planters. Each planter has Indian red granite plaques inscribed with gold lettering. You can lease one of these plaques for a ten year period inscribed with your own personal three line inscription. There is also a posy hole at the base of each planter where you can place a small floral tribute if you wish.
In order to keep the appearance of the authority's crematorium and cemeteries in a pleasant condition, we reserve the right to periodically inspect and remove any floral tributes. There are designated areas for your floral tributes in the Gardens of Remembrance and we respectfully ask that you do not place your flowers on the lawns or flower/shrub beds.

Expired cremation niches
Ashes can be placed in a cremation niche at the crematorium for up to a 20 year period. As and when the lease period ends we will endeavour to contact the lease owner to advise them the lease is due to expire and assist them to make alternative arrangements i.e. the lease can be extended, ashes collected by family or they can be scattered in the Gardens of Remembrance.
On rare occasions, we are not able to locate the registered leaseholder as they may have moved address or they themselves may have passed away. If our attempts to locate family have failed, to ensure the continued dignity and respect of a loved one is maintained we will arrange for the ashes to be scattered in the Gardens of Remembrance as a final resting place.
This list details ashes currently being held by Bereavement Services due to a niche lease having ended [https://www.coventry.gov.uk/downloads/file/33983/columbaria_wall_and_lawn_cremation_niches_-_lease_expired_listing].
All standard processes followed to locate family members have failed. As a result, arrangements will be made for the ashes to be scattered in the Gardens of Remembrance in due course.
Notice of intention to scatter
If Bereavement Services do not receive direct instruction from family members within three months of the date of entry of the deceased on the spreadsheet attached below the ashes will be scattered and the location recorded for future reference.
