um so if we move on to the next slide it's going to be uh NSPCC so that's over to you Caroline.
Hi sorry thank you just switching my camera on um so uh good afternoon thanks again for asking us to join you um my name is Caroline Butler and I'm a schools coordinator for the NSPCC it's a very new role that's been around since November and our role is to be a contact for schools and primary schools uh initially primarily um and to signpost um schools to um resources we have and things we offer and also to promote our speak out stay safe program which is um a safeguarding program um for primary school children you can go on to the next slide please um this is a quick overview of our speak out stay safe program we're now offering it online um so um which is going to talk a little bit today very quickly about the online program the pre-recorded assemblies and any other kind of services and resources that we have um for parents carers and professionals um and also we do have a send version of the program um so if you go into the next slide please um
this kind of outlines our goals um our mission is to reach as many children as possible and to deliver the important messages that are in the speaker stay safe programme the programme is a really effective way to support school safeguarding duties it helps with PHSE because it reinforces the messages key messages about neglect and abuse and it also encourages children to consider their own well-being and it empowers children to know um their rights so their right to speak out to be heard and the right to get help when they need it and we also teach children and they have a right to feel happy and safe and we encourage children to speak out if um if they're not feeling happy or safe so can you go to the next slide please um so um
this is kind of again the main goal of our programme um to help children understand abuse in all its forms recognize the signs of abuse understand abuse isn't their fault and they have the right to be safe and we've developed that um message to be online um so if you go to the next slide thank you
okay so um this is a short video that it's not going to be enough time to watch um but I think the slides are going to be shared so this is just a little bit about our assemblies and how they've moved online and what we've been doing during the pandemic so just if we go to the next level i recommend that if you're interested you go and you watch that video okay so um assemblies are split into two key stages um so the messages to the children are age appropriate um we have um Welsh versions and um signed versions available as well um the program because we're asking schools to do it online we steward them through that program and we give them a full um a full set of resources um to help them deliver that themselves in schools and we give them guidance calls to talk them through all these different resources so letters that are structured to go out to parents and carers to let them know that the program is taking place in school um summary documents to distribute to all the staff so the staff know what the children are going to learn that day and there's also resources to choose before the assemblies and after so if you go to the next slide please um it's just an example of some of the resources that we use to support the assemblies that um schools are encouraged to use with children after the online assembly um and these um are fully um uh supported with um teaching plans and um guidance and these activities really help to reinforce the messages of the programme to the children can you go to the next slide please um we also have a home a home learning version available
to parents that teach children at home um so there's more information there to look at if that's something that you think would be useful to pass on can you go to the next slide please
um the other great thing about the speak out stay safe program is it introduces children to ChildLine so when we're talking about speaking out and we encourage children to speak out to a trusted adult and we teach them that ChildLine is always there for them and whatever their worry and children can always contact a child line counsellor um and in the program we explore ways um that the young children so the young people and children can get in touch with ChildLine and the website is very interactive um he goes to the next slide please thank you um so it is like a great source of um
a great source for children a great source of support for them that they can be empowered to access themselves um this is just some of the um the facts about ChildLine I've just managed to turn my camera off I do apologize sorry um so um as you can see um we put children first um children um have access to free confidential support whenever they need it and they can get access to counselling sessions but obviously these are things that children access for themselves not that they're kind of um referred on to so you can go to the next slide please um
okay so this is kind of what our program teaches children about ChildLine that they can get in touch in lots of different ways and whatever a child's worry whenever they need help ChildLine is there to listen to them um and no promising people too small there's a confidentiality promise so what a child says to ChildLine stays with ChildLine unless um we're worried or concerned about that child so that's um important for them to know um ChildLine can also contact someone on a child's behalf if a child asks them to and so when a child contacts ChildLine they are totally in control of that
so if you could go to the next slide please okay um so these are um some really great um resources um for parents and carers and when schools have to notify parents that the school is taking part in the programme um that letter will go out to parents and carers and not have access to all those um all those different resources as well as information about what the children are going to learn during the program when it's being delivered at school um okay so if we go to the next slide please
okay there's some more um resources there as well um so the looks things say play for example is um it's online resources that um families with early years can access to to help encourage new parents to interact with their children to help with their development um so that's one of our campaigns that we're running at the moment um if you go to the next slide please okay and this is just a little bit about the sun programme um it's six um it's six sessions they're very flexible um but they do have to be run in in order but they can be run um over a matter of weeks or you know um you know sessions can be repeated and the intention is is that um this can be run in special schools and also in um in mainstream schools where they might have children that um where this fits their needs better and the idea is that those children can also access the important messages within the program and can be empowered um to keep themselves safe and also to sort of think about their own well-being and when they feel happy and sad and who to speak out to and tell if they're not feeling um if they're not feeling happy if you go to the next slide please um
okay yeah so this is just some more resources that we offer online as well and we always tell schools about these resources and we do offer PHSE lesson plans for schools that are downloadable um if you go to the next slide please
okay and this is just a little bit about what we offer at NSPCC learning so there's lots of information on mental health um there are lots of articles and lots of resources on mental health issues um as well as packages that um that schools can buy into um for safeguarding and online safety etc if you go to the next slide please okay that's just a little bit about how schools can support us um the service that we provide so the program we offer is completely free um but we always um tell schools that we're really happy whenever they can fundraise for us and I think it really empowers the children um if they can choose the NSPCC charity of the year for example and children seem to really like getting involved and fundraising for the NSPCC so we give them lots of resources to support them in doing that and also we have uh lots of different um uh events throughout the year that schools and other people can take part in so if you can go to the next slide please um
Yeah, next slide okay um great so that's just how um schools can get into touch with this and find out more about the speak out stay safe program um we always um say if you can recommend us to schools um we are we just we really do want to reach every single child with those important messages so we keep them safe from abuse and also empower them um to speak out about their own well-being um and think about um the fact that they have the right to be happy and they have the right to get help when they need it so those are important messages and by sort of um telling people about that enables us to get into more schools and um get those messages out to every single child um can you go to the next slide please okay so that's the whole presentation um I think we're leaving questions are we so um I'll be around if I if I'm not you know there I will be back at the end and I'll check all the chat and everything as well so um thank you Caroline.
