Coventry railway station's new building opens - Video and audio transcripts

I’m here today to mark the official opening of Coventry’s new railway station that you can see behind me. We've had a number of important guests here today who represent all of the funders that have been brought together to make this 82 million pound project a reality. Coventry has seen a massive growth in passenger numbers using the railway over a number of years and we needed a new station to reflect those passenger numbers and here it is today in all its glory. I urge you to come and have a look at the station it is something to behold, it is something that shows how it is that we can bring different partners together to deliver what is one of the best railway stations now not just in the region but anywhere in the country. Coventry is on the up, we're growing, we're getting wealthier and we need to reflect that in some of our built environment. We're looking at greener cleaner forms of travel and of course, the railway is a great example of that Coventry over the next few years as well we'll see very light rail on the streets as well we're taking part in autonomous vehicle trials as well here and of course, we've got the world's first urban airport drone air taxes right here in Coventry across the road so all in all a good day for Coventry, Coventry’s new railway station.
