Councillor Patricia Hetherton: I’m here this morning to see the work that has commenced on the Swanswell Viaduct. It’s part of our ring road improvements. Our ring road was actually planned in 1954 and commenced in 1959. The works went on until the late 60s/early 70s. It covers 2.2 miles. It actually has 9 junctions and what we’re looking at now, because some of it is so old, is that the surface needs replacing, the waterproofing needs to be looked at to make sure there is no water retention of the surface and to make it more aesthetically pleasing.
Neil Cowper: This is a very exciting project which continues the work that we did in 2018 and involves major works to the structure of the bridge, replacing the edge beams and putting on new panels. Also, waterproofing and new surfacing of the deck. It’s, in total, a £5m project, which is partly funded by the Department for Transport and partly by the city council.
