- About the service
-
Midwifery services at UHCW are based at the GP surgeries, the hospital and in the Family Hubs across Coventry and Rugby. We predominantly provide antenatal care from the GP surgery where women and families are registered but we do also have some small clinics running from Family Hubs and from the hospital.
Women have a choice of where to give birth. We have a homebirth service for women wishing to deliver their baby at home. A low-risk birth unit at UHCW (Lucina Suite) where we facilitate our pool births and this is facilitated by midwives. We also have labour ward which includes a birth pool room, multiple birth room for our twin deliveries and several delivery rooms.
Our postnatal service is based in the home setting following discharge from the hospital and our final discharge appointments being booked into local Family Hubs.
UHCW does offer antenatal classes discussing birth, how to care for a new-born and preparing for breastfeeding. We also work closely with MAMTA to provide language supported antenatal classes for women only.
