Today we're launching Coventry's new refreshed climate change strategy.

0:06

There's an emergency out there. And  actually what this strategy will do,

0:11

it will identify all the actions and the  projects that we've got both in the city

0:17

that we're actually taking part in at the  moment and we've got in the pipeline in order

0:21

to tackle this most important of issues that's threatening our planet and threatening mankind.

0:27

I think it's an exciting strategy,  really ambitious. And it should be

0:31

integrated into everything in the city. All  people, all organisations should contribute

0:36

to it. It's not only the city council,  although they have a coordinating role.

0:40

Well, I think one of the most promising aspects is the public engagement. At the moment, it is

0:46

a draft climate change strategy, building on  the success that Coventry has already achieved,

0:51

but pointing the direction to really reducing our emissions further.

0:57

We've all got contributions to make. And that  might be something as simple as shifting from

1:02

the car to the bus or getting involved with  volunteers who are looking after the local

1:08

park. There are all kinds of ways in which individuals can actually play an active part.

1:13

And I think particularly families with kids in  school have an opportunity to kind of bridge

1:18

the generations and make sure that the lessons the kids are learning get passed on to their parents.

1:24

First of all, we've put all the information available on the website.

1:28

If you can't access it on the website,  come and see us at the Council House,

1:31

or one of our buildings, we'll point you in the right direction. It's really important

1:34

that we hear your voice, to really understand  what matters to you and what you want us to

1:39

be focusing on and ensure we reach the parts that other places haven't before.

1:43

This entirely possible to get to net-zero and  to live in a better city, have better jobs and,

1:49

you know, be happier and more prosperous as a result of doing it. So get behind it,

1:54

it's not a scary negative thing.  It's a positive opportunity.
