Coventry Outdoor Education Service
We are committed to supporting children and young people through developing a service which has strong links between the outdoor experience, the school curriculum and character education – helping schools to raise student attainment levels through authentic learning experiences.
Whether it is programmes to equip young people with valuable social skills for their future, improve relationships and raise their aspirations or programmes designed to enhance mental health and wellbeing and personal development or to gain new skills and qualifications - we have bespoke programmes designed just for you.
The Wild Passport programme is an innovative outdoor personal development initiative designed for young people in Key Stage 2 (KS2), aimed at fostering experiential learning and holistic growth. This programme is linked to the national curriculum, offering a unique and engaging way for students to develop essential skills and knowledge whilst learning outside.
One of the key features of the Wild Passport programme is its alignment with the national curriculum. By participating in this programme, students not only engage in exciting outdoor activities but also reinforce their learning in core subjects such as Maths, English, and Science.
The programme is structured to include hands-on activities that promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork, all of which are essential skills for academic success and personal development.
Upon completion of the Wild Passport programme, students receive a certificate that recognises their achievements and the skills they have gained through their outdoor experiences. This certification serves as a testament to their dedication and growth throughout the programme, providing a tangible reward for their efforts.
The Wild Passport programme utilises experiential learning as a cornerstone of its approach to outdoor personal development. Through hands-on experiences, students are able to directly apply concepts learned in the classroom to real-world situations, enhancing their understanding and retention of key subject matter.
In Maths, students may engage in activities such as measuring distances, calculating angles using trees, or budgeting for holding an end of year celebration, where school staff are invited to celebrate the success and progress of the students. In English, students can develop their communication skills through journaling about their experiences, writing narratives about outdoor adventures, or crafting persuasive arguments for environmental conservation. In Science, students may explore ecological concepts through nature walks, conduct simple experiments in the field, or learn about sustainability practices firsthand.
By linking experiential learning to the national curriculum for core subjects, the Wild Passport programme offers a comprehensive educational experience that goes beyond traditional classroom learning. Students are encouraged to explore, discover, and connect with the world around them in a meaningful way, fostering a love for learning and personal growth that extends far beyond the confines of the classroom.
Wild Passport programme provides a valuable platform for young people in KS2 to engage in outdoor personal development while reinforcing their academic learning. By integrating experiential learning with the national curriculum, this programme offers students a unique opportunity to connect with nature, develop essential skills, and earn a qualification that acknowledges their achievements. It is a transformative experience that inspires a lifelong love for learning and exploration.
