At Progressive Training, we offer students the opportunity to attain a Level 2 qualification in Electrical, Carpentry and Plumbing Skills. This builds a foundation to go on to a career in these trades, secure an apprenticeship or continue further education in a specific field.
The course covers a wide range of topics from basic plumbing techniques to more advanced electrical installations and carpentry skills (AQA unit award scheme). To complete the 2-year course, students will attain an accredited Vocational Qualification Level 1-Level 3.
Year 1
During the first year, the student will create a portfolio of skills and experience using a wide range of techniques and initiatives. Each AQA unit details the evidence needed to successfully complete it, such as practical tasks and knowledge assessments.
Key Insights
Learners are required to demonstrate practical skills in plumbing, such as installing sinks, taps, and waste pipes.
Safety precautions and adherence to rules are emphasized throughout the units.
The electrical units focus on understanding circuits, components, and safe working practices.
Different levels of complexity are present in the units, from basic plumbing installations to more advanced tasks like creating a ring main electrical circuit.
The carpentry units focus on basic woodwork and joinery skills, using appropriate tools confidently and safely.
Each unit is approved by AQA and has specific outcomes that learners must achieve.
Year 2
During the second year, the student will develop employability skills and further enhance the trade skills they learnt during year 1.
NOCN offers a range of employability qualifications to help people enter employment and succeed at work (see www.nocn.org.uk for further information).
Employability skills are personal qualities that make a person employable. They are sometimes called “soft skills” or transferable skills as they are different from technical skills and work experience in a particular job role or industry.
Employability skills can be applied to any area of work or life and are arguably more important now than ever before due to the rapidly changing job market.
NOCN Employability Skills Qualifications range from Entry Level 1 to Level 3. These qualifications have been designed to provide different groups of learners with the skills, attributes, and behaviours that they need to enter and succeed in the world of work.
NB Tues/Fri is a 2 day a week certificate and the Thursday is a 1 day a week award.
