Course Description
This course is delivered in the home to students who are unable to attend on site provision. This foundational course is designed for aspiring photographers who want to develop their skills and understanding of photography. Through a combination of theoretical lessons and practical exercises, students will explore various aspects of photography, including:
• Introduction to Photography: Overview of photography as an art form and communication medium.
Understanding different types of photography (portrait, landscape, documentary, etc.).

• Camera Basics: Familiarisation with different camera types (DSLR, mirrorless, smartphone). Understanding camera settings: aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and exposure triangle.

• Composition Techniques: o Learning the principles of composition, including the rule of thirds, leading lines, and framing. Exploring the impact of light and shadow on composition.

• Lighting Fundamentals: Understanding natural and artificial lighting. Techniques for shooting in various lighting conditions, including low light and bright sunlight.

• Practical Photography Skills: Hands-on practice with camera settings and composition in different environments. Assignments to capture images based on specific themes or techniques.

• Post-Processing Basics: Introduction to photo editing software (e.g., Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop). Basic editing techniques to enhance photos and understand the ethical considerations of editing.

• Building a Portfolio: Guidance on selecting and presenting photographs to showcase individual style and creativity. Tips for creating a personal portfolio for future opportunities.

• Critique and Feedback: o Participating in group critiques to provide and receive constructive feedback on photographs. o Understanding how to evaluate and improve one's own work.

By the end of the course, students will have developed a solid foundation in photography, enabling them to capture compelling images and express their creativity through the lens.

The course will be supported by experienced educators and mentors, providing valuable insights and guidance throughout the learning journey.
