Bright Outcomes Ltd provides a unique, home-based alternative provision for young people unable to attend school due to EBSA, SEND, or Mental Health difficulties. We focus on academic progress, community inclusion, and employment preparation, with support from qualified teachers and experienced mentors to ensure each student’s progression. Our aim is to be the bridge back to education, not the final destination—equipping students with the academic skills, confidence, and independence they need to return to school and succeed.
This course is delivered in the home to students who are unable to attend on site provision.
Week 1: Introduction to Independent Living
Topics Covered: Understanding what independent living means and its importance. Identifying personal goals for independence and self-sufficiency.
Activities: Group discussion on perceptions of independence and personal aspirations.
Week 2: Life Skills Essentials Topics Covered: Basic cooking skills: meal planning, grocery shopping, and food safety. Laundry basics: washing, drying, and caring for clothes.
Activities: Hands-on cooking demonstration and a practical laundry session.
Week 3: Financial Literacy for Independence Topics Covered: Basics of budgeting: tracking income and expenses. Understanding banking: setting up a bank account, saving, and managing money.
Activities: Workshop on creating a simple budget and understanding needs versus wants.
Week 4: Personal Safety and Health Topics Covered: Importance of personal safety: home safety, internet safety, and dealing with emergencies. Basic first aid and understanding health resources (doctors, mental health).
Activities: Interactive safety scenarios and basic first aid demonstration.
Week 5: Communication and Interpersonal Skills Topics Covered: Importance of effective communication and assertiveness in everyday interactions. Building healthy relationships with family, friends, and peers.
Activities: Role-playing exercises to practice communication skills in different scenarios.
Week 6: Planning for the Future Topics Covered: Setting personal goals for the future: education, career, and life choices. Exploring available resources and support systems for young adults.
Activities: Final project presentations: participants share their independent living plans and future aspirations.
Assessment and Evaluation Participation: Engaging in discussions and group activities.
Quizzes: Weekly assessments to reinforce understanding of course content.
Final Project: Developing and presenting a personal independent living plan that includes skills learned, financial goals, and future aspirations.
By the end of this course, participants will have gained essential life skills and practical knowledge needed for independent living, empowering them to transition smoothly into adulthood and take charge of their lives.
