Bright Outcomes Ltd provides a unique, home-based alternative provision for young people unable to attend school due to EBSA, SEND, or Mental Health difficulties. We focus on academic progress, community inclusion, and employment preparation, with support from qualified teachers and experienced mentors to ensure each student’s progression. Our aim is to be the bridge back to education, not the final destination—equipping students with the academic skills, confidence, and independence they need to return to school and succeed.
This course is delivered in the home to students who are unable to attend on site provision.
Week 1: Introduction to Science Foundations
• Topics Covered: Overview of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Understanding the importance of a strong foundation in science for future education and careers. Identifying individual gaps in knowledge across the three subjects.
Week 2: Identifying Gaps in Biology (Part 1)
• Topics Covered: Core biological concepts: cells, organ systems, and the basics of life. Introduction to human biology, plant biology, and ecosystems. Conducting assessments to identify specific knowledge gaps in biology.
Week 3: Bridging Gaps in Biology (Part 2)
• Topics Covered: Key processes: photosynthesis, respiration, and reproduction. Understanding genetics, DNA, and evolution. Filling knowledge gaps through focused learning and revision.
Week 4: Identifying Gaps in Chemistry (Part 1)
• Topics Covered: Introduction to atomic structure, elements, and the periodic table. Basics of chemical reactions, compounds, and bonding. Assessments to highlight areas of weakness in Chemistry.
Week 5: Bridging Gaps in Chemistry (Part 2)
• Topics Covered: Understanding acids, bases, and pH levels. Investigating states of matter, mixtures, and solutions. Targeted practice to address gaps in knowledge and improve understanding.
Week 6: Identifying Gaps in Physics (Part 1)
• Topics Covered: Core physics concepts: forces, energy, and motion. Introduction to key topics such as gravity, velocity, and acceleration. Assessment to identify areas requiring further focus in Physics.
Week 7: Bridging Gaps in Physics (Part 2)
• Topics Covered: Understanding waves, electricity, and magnetism. Exploring the laws of thermodynamics and energy transfer. Strengthening understanding through practical problem-solving exercises.
Week 8: Scientific Investigation Skills
• Topics Covered: Introduction to the scientific method: hypothesis, experimentation, and conclusion. How to conduct experiments safely and effectively in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Developing critical thinking and analytical skills through scientific inquiry.
Week 9: Practical Applications in Biology
• Topics Covered: Investigating human health and disease, including the immune system. Application of biological concepts in environmental science and sustainability. Hands-on activities to reinforce biological knowledge.
Week 10: Practical Applications in Chemistry
• Topics Covered: Exploring chemical reactions in everyday life, such as combustion and corrosion. Understanding the role of Chemistry in industry, environment, and medicine. Practical exercises to enhance chemistry comprehension.
Week 11: Practical Applications in Physics
• Topics Covered: Applying physics concepts to technology and engineering (e.g., circuits, energy conservation). Investigating space, the universe, and advancements in modern physics. Solving real-world physics problems using theoretical knowledge.
Week 12: Review and Future Planning
• Topics Covered: Reviewing progress in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Addressing remaining gaps in knowledge across the three sciences. Planning for future learning, coursework, or career pathways in STEM fields.
Assessment and Evaluation
• Participation: Engagement in discussions and practical exercises.
• Assessments: Weekly quizzes and practical assessments to track progress in each science subject.
• Final Project: Completing a scientific investigation that applies concepts from Biology, Chemistry, or Physics, demonstrating improved knowledge.
By the end of this course, participants will have strengthened their understanding of core Biology, Chemistry, and Physics concepts, filled any knowledge gaps, and gained confidence in applying scientific principles to real-world situations.
