New to Coventry: TouchPoint Productions and PointZero physical theatre bring real stories to life through monologue and physical theatre, in collaboration with former veterans and the homeless.
Touching the hearts through a dramatic experience, the productions identify with asylum seekers and the homeless through dynamic, authentic performance. "Powerful, deeply moving and authentic" (Oxford Mail ****) Crossing Over (Monologue by Mary Scott) Immigration officer, Margaret, a worn-out, overworked cynic is at last retiring from her job— but cannot throw off the guilt and shame of barely fulfilling her duty to a young asylum seeker who had got under her skin. Whilst battling with her own feelings of failure, Margaret relives her encounter with this extraordinary woman who had an unexpected effect on her life and changed her forever. Exploring themes of faith, hope and love. Recycle: Disposable Lives? (by Danny Scott) Three characters are found rummaging through rubbish bins on the street. The rubbish is representative of each of the individuals' fractured hopes and dreams - ‘jig-saw pieces’ of their life-stories. Each life-story unfolds before us with tangible humour and sadness, hope and hopelessness, hurt, joyfulness and tender beauty, expressed through a compelling fusion of physical-theatre, contemporary dance, monologue, poetry, mime and symbolism. Recycle: Disposable Lives? explores the questions of isolation, value and human fragility and belief. Will these lives continue to be side-lined and considered disposable by society, or can they be recycled and restored to value and meaning?
