Woodlands

Coventry City Council, Citizen Housing and Earthwatch Europe would like your help to design a Tiny Forest at Foresters Road!

A Tiny Forest is a dense, fast-growing native woodland, about the size of a tennis court. It uses the Miyawaki tree planting method, where a community of native trees that include the different layers found in a mature forest, are planted close together. This allows our Tiny Forests to develop rapidly and form a multi-layered forest ecosystem. Each of these forests will be designed by, cared for and enjoyed by the local community. Under the careful management of ‘Tree Keeper’ volunteers, communities can water, weed and care for their local forests. More information can be found on Earthwatch Europe's website.

To increase tree canopy cover, biodiversity, increase local water storage, cool the local environment and take up carbon dioxide, Coventry City Council, Citizen Housing and Earthwatch Europe are proposing to plant a Tiny Forest on the green space at Foresters Road.

To design this forest, get more information, ask questions, or tell us your ideas, join us for a free drop-in event on Tuesday 14 January, 2pm - 6pm at Cheylesmore Community Centre.

If you can’t make it, but wish to share your thoughts, please email us at ecology@coventry.gov.uk or take part in the online Let's Talk survey.
