Introduction and context
We want people in Coventry to live full and active lives in their local communities, this being a key element of our Coventry Adult Social Care Offer.
This Direct Payments Strategy sets out our ambition for people who wish to be in control of the support they are eligible to receive from Adult Care Social Care and professionals that arrange, deliver or have a supporting role in this. We want to ensure people have power and control over their lives and see ‘self-directed support’ being essential to achieve this.
Direct Payments, including via an Individual Service Fund are ways to receive self directed support and are available to people who have been assessed as being eligible for support from Adult Social Care. A Direct Payment is an agreed sum of money that is paid to a person (or someone acting on their behalf), so they can arrange their own care and support instead of the Council.
A Direct Payment is one way to receive a Personal Budget, which is a budget allocated to a person by the Council to pay for support to meet assessed, eligible care needs. Another way to receive a Personal Budget is through an Individual Service Fund where a care provider, chosen by the person, manages the budget on their behalf.
