Live music in your library

Get it Loud in Libraries

Coventry Libraries have been hosting live music events since 2016 when Spring King, a post-punk band from Manchester, played Central Library. Since then, the library has hosted many more emerging and established music acts, such as Idles, Fontaines DC, Sam Fender, VANT and Jorja Smith. The bands are generally on the cusp of breaking through into mainstream and are also an ideal event for young people and families. These fantastic gigs are all part of the unique award-winning Get It Loud In Libraries project, designed to give people who love music the chance to see top-notch artists in their local library. As part of the project, the library also hosted an evening with lead singer of The Charlatans, Tim Burgess.

Local studies

Coventry Libraries stock a selection of local interest titles, and you can find them by searching the online catalogue [https://librarycatalogue.coventry.gov.uk/], but the 'local studies collection' is now held with Coventry Archives [https://www.theherbert.org/history-centre/]

Coventry Archives opened in 2008 when the resources of Coventry Record Office and the local studies collection held at Central Library were brought together under one roof. It is a treasure trove of information on the history of Coventry and its citizens from medieval times to the present.

The vast range of original documents includes books, maps, newspapers, electoral registers and building plans. Photographs, oral history, microfilms, and internet sources provide further evidence on the history of the city and the people who have lived here.

Whether you are researching for school or college projects, university dissertations, family history or just want to know more about the history of your house, Coventry Archives is an invaluable free resource and an essential destination.

Online resources

In addition to the physical collections, there is a range of online resources that you can access from anywhere with an internet connection. Here are some examples of local interest websites and digital repositories that you can explore:
