Cllr Mutton has represented the residents of Radford Ward since she was first elected to the Council in 2008.

Over those years, she has held a number of positions at the Council, the most recent being Cabinet Member for Adult Services.

Cllr Mutton previously held the role of Lady Mayoress in 1997/98 when her late husband, John was Lord Mayor. She has two sons, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She said “Coventry is an amazing city and taking up the Chains of Office is a great honour.

“From our city’s cultural life and events like the Godiva Festival, to our heritage and history and how we are adopting new technologies to shape an exciting future for Coventry and its people, there is so much to shout about.

“I want to help inspire others to play a role in our diverse, supportive and vibrant communities; to join our work for peace and reconciliation here at home and overseas; and to be a part of the way we are creating a greener, more environmentally-friendly city.”

Cllr Mutton also wants to use her year in office to celebrate the caring side of the city and those who do so much for others, and has named the Carers Trust Heart of England [https://www.carerstrusthofe.org.uk/] and St Giles Trust [https://www.stgilestrust.org.uk/] as her two chosen charities.

Cllr Mutton will be supported in her role by her sister Margaret who will be Lady Mayoress.

Deputy Lord Mayor of Coventry

Cllr Rachel Lancaster has been named as the Deputy Lord Mayor of the City of Coventry.

Cllr Lancaster represents the Holbrook Ward and is the second woman in her family to serve as a City Councillor, following in the footsteps of her late mother Margaret, who also represented the Holbrook Ward and served the city for 16 years.

She has served in many roles during her time on the Council, including Charing Scrutiny Boards, as Chair and deputy Chair of Licensing Committee and as the Cabinet Member for Public Services.

Outside the Council, her professional life has mainly been engaged by working for charities across the city, including as a Director of Coventry Independent Advice Services and Coventry and District Credit Union.

She is a school governor at John Shelton, her old primary school, and works with other schools across Holbrooks, including President Kennedy School, to help struggling families access support.

The Deputy Lord Mayor is passionate about empowering people, giving them the opportunity to access knowledge and skills in their community to improve their lives; to protecting the environment by promoting the recycling and reusing of waste; and champions community involvement.

She said: “I am delighted to be named Deputy Lord Mayor of my diverse and historical city. I grew up here and myself and my family are extremely proud I have been given the opportunity to serve Coventry in this way. I’m looking forward to meeting some of the many people out there who help to make it home.”

Cllr Lancaster will be supported in her role by her son Lawrie and daughter Meridith as consort.
