Coventry City Council’s #CovConnects Team has partnered with local and national organisations to run a number of interactive sessions for young people in the city.
The team are working with Lenovo, CDW, Sky Blues in the Community and the Moat House Community trust to curate a free programme of activities called ‘Lenovo presents: An introduction to tech.’
‘Lenovo presents: An introduction to tech’, which is set to run from Wednesday 5 April at Moat House Community Centre, will allow young people to trial a number of exciting digital experiences as part of a thrilling day of activities.
As part of the day, people will be able to engage in competitive e-sport sessions and will be able to journey on an immersive adventure in virtual reality.
These digital sessions will be run by Lenovo’s dedicated team of professionals and will give attendees the chance to find out more about the opportunities this tech will bring.
Alongside these activities there will be a number of exciting activities run by Sky Blues in the Community. These activities will include internet safety, multisport opportunities, arts and crafts and food will be provided for all the young people who attend.
Cllr Richard Brown, Cabinet Member of Strategic Finances and Resources, said:
“Our #CovConnects scheme is all about ensuring that all our residents have the ability and opportunity to make the most of the digital world.
“Programmes like ‘Lenovo Presents: An Introduction to Tech’ are the perfect opportunity to help us do just that and I’m delighted that we’ve been able to come together with our partners across the city to offer these engaging sessions.
“Virtual reality and e-sports are two rapidly growing industries, and these sessions will allow our young people to get invaluable hands-on experience with that technology. Who knows? Perhaps one of our young people will be inspired by the session to take their first steps in the field.”
Penny Williams, UK Vice-President of sales at CDW, said:
“This project is a perfect representation of CDW's values when it comes to inspiring the future generations and bridging the digital skills gap. We want young people to be empowered to do great things, and we hope this introduction to technology will give our attendees the tools to use the internet safely and the confidence to pursue a career in tech.”
