The first week of Coventry Outdoors Education activity camps took place at Coombe Abbey Park last week which proved a huge success.

The camps are running for five weeks over the summer and are open to anyone between the ages of 11 and 15.

Each participant is guaranteed to have an adventure like no other, which will include learning survival techniques, to taking part in all sorts of outdoor activities and challenges, whilst making new friends and having lots of fun!

Activities include:

  • Combat Archery
  • Laser Tag
  • Bushcraft
  • Survival Skills

Councillor Dr Kindy Sandhu, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills recently visited the camps.

She said: “It was a real joy to visit camps and see what goes on. The young people were all eager to learn life skills and I could tell each one of them was experiencing something new and exciting.

“Being outdoors is great for our mental health and it supports our physical health as well, so it’s fantastic that Coventry Outdoors offers the activity camps, which I would strongly recommend all young people to participate in.

“The camps are open to those who get free school meals and those who do not. It's a fantastic opportunity to be a part of something truly unique while being surrounded by like-minded young people eager to explore and learn."

The Outdoor Education Team provide a world-class service that equips children and young people with the vital skills, knowledge and experiences to assist them in their transition to adulthood; whilst using the outdoor environment as an integral part of their learning and development.

For anyone wanting their child to spend the summer doing something fun and learning new skills, this is a great opportunity. There’s still plenty of time to sign your child up if you think this could be for them.

Chloe Groves, Outdoor Educational Lead at Coventry City Council said: “We strongly believe that being outdoors, fully immersed in the natural environment, helps children and young people explore different ways to boost self-awareness and confidence, cultivate greater happiness and find greater wellbeing”.

James Louca-Weston, age 13, said: “Three words I would use to sum up the camps are interesting, inspirational and fun. You get to do lots of cool experiments and have lots of outdoor experiences.

“I’ve learnt so much from this camp and it’s so much fun to do. I would recommend this to anybody who is interested in outdoor experiences”.
