Coventry City Council have secured just over £800,000 in funding to increase capacity in providing employment and skills support to Coventry residents.
The funding comes from the Commonwealth Games Legacy Enhancement Fund (CWGLEF) and is managed regionally by the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) on behalf of the Department of Culture Media and Sport (DCMS).
The Coventry Job Shop and its network of partners will facilitate the delivery of the funding, which will be utilised in conjunction with the UK Shared Prosperity funding. The focus will be on offering additional support to those who are 16-29 and not in employment education or training (NEET), those aged 50+ and women who are in low paid work or are economically inactive.
Councillor Dr Kindy Sandhu, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said: “This is very welcome news. The funding will open up so many more opportunities for Coventry residents who need additional support.
“Again, the Job Shop is working in partnership to ensure these opportunities are taken up by our residents and allow them to get into education or training.”
More than 300 Coventry residents will be supported with a focus on reaching residents from more deprived areas of the city. Residents will be supported by one-to-one Job Coaches who will work with them in a holistic, person-centred way.
The Job Shop has a proven track record in supporting a diverse range of Coventry residents to enter the right employment for them. Over the last 10 years the Job Shop has supported more than 15,000 Coventry residents into good quality sustainable employment.
