The Partnership has received the Youth Justice SEND Quality Lead Status and the Child First Commendation.

The awards are the latest success for the service, which was last year rated as ‘outstanding’ by HMI Probation.

The YJS aims to prevent offending and reduce the number of children entering the justice system, working with families, victims and partner organisations to keep children and young people away from crime and create safer communities.

The Quality Lead Award is a recognition scheme for youth justice services and their partners working with children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

It is offered by the Association of Youth Offending Team Managers (AYM) in partnership with Microlink PC, a leading provider of assistive technology solutions.

It recognises those who show improved outcomes for children with SEND in their local area through effective partnership working and who set consistently high levels of practice.

The Child First Commendation reflects the commitment to putting the best interests of the child at the heart of the youth justice system and showcases examples of good practice and innovation that can inspire and inform others.

It also highlights the challenges and barriers that services face in working with children with SEND and how they overcome them.

Cllr Patricia Seaman, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “This is fantastic news and reflects the tremendous amount of hard work and dedication shown by the Partnership.

“Here in Coventry we strive to put the child and the family at the heart of all we do and to give every single young person the chance of the best possible start in life, and this latest recognition shows that approach is working. Congratulation and thank you to all at the partnership for all they do for the city.”

Matthew Haynes, Coventry Youth Justice Services Team Manager, said: “It is really pleasing to be involved in a partnership that works so well together to support children and this national recognition is praise to all involved.”

Both awards are valid for three years. Read more about the awards.
