Dementia Action Week is an annual awareness-raising campaign, with the Alzheimer’s Society working to encourage people to act on dementia.
Dementia is a group of symptoms caused by different diseases that damage the brain and usually gets worse over time.
Common symptoms of dementia include memory loss, confusion, problems with understanding and language, and changes in behaviour. It is thought that there are currently around 900,000 people in the UK living with dementia.
As part of the week, Coventry’s Dementia Partnership Hub will be hosting an event in its Forget Me Not Café. The event will be an opportunity for people to visit the hub and to learn about the support options available through the Council’s Adult Social Care. The Carers Trust will be in attendance, as well as the Financial Assessments Team and Telecare Teams from Coventry City Council along with the Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trust.
The event will take place between 10am and 2pm on Monday 13 May at the Coventry Dementia Partnership Hub, Everdon Road, Coventry, CV6 4DT.
The Dementia Hub was opened in 2023 and offers a supportive space for people living with dementia as well as their carers.
Cllr Linda Bigham, Cabinet Member for Adult Services, said:
“The Coventry Dementia Partnership hub is a lifeline for so many people in the community. Anyone who’s life has been affected by dementia will find a relaxing and calm space in the Hub.
“One in three people will develop dementia in their lifetime and it is fantastic that the Hub are supporting Dementia Action Week by offering a drop-in session for people to find out more about the support available to anyone who is affected by dementia.”
