Coombe Abbey Park has received an amazing overall score of 93% from Visit England following a recent Visit England Quality Assessment.

It means that the Coventry City Council owned venue will be nominated for a Gold Accolade.

The park was praised as a welcoming place to visit for a more diverse audience with the welcome addition of facilities like the newly opened Changing Places toilets, Pay and Play for younger children alongside the Climbing Forest, Go Ape and all the free attractions including the initiation of the Memorial Trail, gardens, arboretum, Old Deer Park, Wildflower meadow and Bird Hide.

These additions are helping the park to welcome more than 600,000 visitors all year around.

The Information Centre and Discovery Centre were both complemented for their wealth of guides, maps and interactive information.

The Artisan Market outlet with a diverse range of food and drinks, including barista coffee, the Sundae Club, Pawsome Pets parlour and the brilliant Coombe Abbey Woodturners, were also highlighted.

The east of Coventry venue scored the maximum 100% by judges based on their arrival experience, which would come as no surprise to regular visitors.  The 500-acre park, includes a serpentine lake, sweeping views some of which were designed by Capability Brown in the late 1700s.

Cleanliness also scored a very impressive 96%.

Cllr Abdul Khan, Deputy Leader of Coventry City Council, said: “We all know how much local people and visitors enjoy the fantastic experience of visiting Coombe Abbey Park.

“I was there recently and there is so much for people to enjoy and it is a really spectacular venue.

“I’m delighted that judges from Visit England have given the park such high praise, and fingers crossed that it will achieve the golden accolade it richly deserves.”

Cllr Patricia Hetherton, who also has responsibility for parks in the city, added: “It’s a magnificent place. To have somewhere that residents can visit so near to the city is vital.

“The views are wonderful, and the facilities are of a very high quality.

“I’m also really pleased that the judges recognised the cleanliness of the park, this is down to the hard work and dedication of our council staff, but also the care and respect shown by the thousands of visitors.”

Coombe Abbey Park has a high number of repeat visitors, and its popularity is all year round.
