Residents are being encouraged to take part in a consultation that will shape the way Coventry agencies, including the Police and Council, tackle anti-social behaviour and crime.
A crime survey has been put together by the Coventry Community Safety Partnership (CSP) that will help to shape the city’s next Community Safety Partnership Plan for 2024-27.
The public and stakeholders are being asked to give comments in the crime survey highlighting their own big concerns in the neighbourhoods they live and the experience they have across the city.
CSPs are the statutory body that bring together local partners to solve shared issues around Crime and Disorder, Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) Drug and Alcohol misuse and Reoffending.
The CSP in Coventry meets as the Police and Crime Board (PCB) and is chaired by the Council.
Cllr Abdul Salam Khan, Chair of the Police and Crime Board said:
“We update the plan every few years to take on board the views and concerns of residents, and the crime survey if fundamental to how the plan looks and the priorities we identify.
“It needs to be led by the views and experiences of local people.
“Whether it is e-bikes causing a danger in the city centre, off-road bikes in public parks or instance of fly-tipping or concerns about drug misuse - where we can co-ordinate a partnership response - we will take steps to work together and address the problem.
“There are many other examples where we have listened to public concerns and whatever the issue we want to work together with other services and the residents to help take action together that works.”
A consultation is taking during August and September to enable stakeholders, residents, businesses and young and old people to have a say in the survey.
The consultation will run until Wednesday 2 October.
Community Safety Partners are also consulting on one of its Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs). The hope is to renew an Order that helps tackle the use of Off-road bikes –especially in areas like public parks and a number of other issues that in the past have been highlighted by the public.
PSPOs have been used by the city’s community safety partnership to crack done on a number of problems causing lower level crime, and anti-social behaviour.
Stakeholders on the Coventry’s CSP include the Police , fire service, Council, probation service, Coventry and Warwickshire Integrated Care Board, Citizen housing and community representatives.
