A centre, that was opened in July 2023, is making a major difference to people living with dementia and their carers.

The Coventry Dementia Partnership Hub is part of the Council’s Adult Social Care Service and has already supported hundreds of people since it was opened.

Cllr Linda Bigham, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, visited the hub this week as part of an event to mark one year since it was opened, to see the impact it has made.

She said: “We are always learning about how we can manage dementia, and make life better for both those affected - and also their loved ones.

“Since the Hub was opened it has been offering a range of different activities, information and advice sessions, traditional day services and outreach, along with the Forget Me Not Cafe and social space.

“When you visit the Hub you feel how relaxing and calm it is, and that’s why it is such a place of comfort for countless people.”

The hub involves a number of partners, including Admiral Nurses, Age UK, the Alzheimer’s Society, Carers’ Trust, Lions Club of Coventry Godiva, the Council, the Coventry Police Partnership Team, Dementia Champions, and more.

“It is a venue we should all be proud of,” added Cllr Bigham.

David Atkins is on the Steering Group at the Dementia Hub and volunteers at the Hub twice a week. He is living with dementia.

He said: “A few years ago a group of us worked on the idea of a Hub, now, to see how much happens here every week, is absolutely fantastic. I know the challenges that dementia brings and being involved in the Hub really does matter.”

Deborah Farrell, Manager of the Hub, said: “We have had such a lot going on at the Hub with different activities each day. The room hires have taken off and we set up the Forget Me Not Café which has been a real social focal point for the venue.

“Also, I want to say a huge thank you to the staff team who have embraced the whole idea of the Hub. They are so compassionate about what they do. It really is a lovely environment to work in and it’s wonderful to see the difference it makes to people.”
