A graphic featuring a CCTV Camera and the words 'Coventry wall of shame'

A video published on Coventry City Council’s social media channels today (14 August) shows the boldness of a number of fly tippers.

The video captures different times where people have illegally dumped waste - including mattresses and sofas - in hotspots around the city.

The footage in the video, which can be viewed on the Council’s YouTube channel, was captured by a number of cameras located in fly tipping hotspots across the city, designed to help officers catch culprits.

The filming has been published as part of a new Council campaign called, ‘The Wall of Shame’, to help tackle the ongoing issue of fly tipping in the city.

Officers do regular checks across the city and deal with fly tipped materials on our land straight away. They also routinely serve notices on tenants, landlords and landowners to clear their land and make repairs on their properties. Over the last year they’ve served over 900 notices, and issued 250 fixed penalties for waste related offences

Cllr Abdul Salam Khan, Deputy Leader of Coventry City Council, said: “Ensuring that our city is a fantastic, clean place for everyone who lives, works and visits it is a top priority for us.

“Every day our officers, residents, community groups and businesses work incredibly hard to keep our city clean, and the actions of this minority of people spoils that.

“Let me be clear, fly tipping is unacceptable and we will use everything in our power to stop it and prosecute those responsible. I encourage anyone who recognises anyone in this video to get in touch with us.”

Members of the public are being encouraged to report anyone they recognise in the video by emailing flytipping-cctv@coventry.gov.uk

Residents can also report fly tipping anonymously by going to https://www.coventry.gov.uk/flytipping or calling 08085 834333.
