Cllr Gavin Lloyd has been named as the new Chair of the Scrutiny Board.
Cllr Lloyd, who represents Sherbourne Ward, replaces Councillor Naeem Akhtar in the role, who has moved to be the new Cabinet Member for the Housing and Communities portfolio.
Scrutiny is designed to increase transparency at the Council and enable decisions and policy to be challenged. It also plays a part in developing Council policy, reviewing Council services, reviewing public bodies, and making sure the Council is acting efficiently and effectively.
Cllr Lloyd, who has previously served as a committee member on Children and Education (Scrutiny 2) and Health and Wellbeing (Scrutiny 5), and has experience of all five Scrutiny Boards, said he is looking forward to the new challenge.
He said: “I am delighted to be named Chair of Scrutiny and to take up the good work of Cllr Akhtar.
“I've chaired many meetings within the Council and look forward to working alongside the five Scrutiny Chairs and my Deputy Cllr Lynnette Kelly to raise the profile of scrutiny here at the Council and in the city, and to get more residents involved in challenging the Council and working with us.
“We want a broad range of residents, organisations, partners and experts to have a say and help us gain a diverse range of views so we can harness the vast amount of expertise there is available in our city and work together for the common good.
“We need to talk to those who use our services and keep them informed so they feel confident in challenging us as a Council and are able to help us as we continue to transform our services to meet future challenges.”
