This November, Coventry’s Peace Festival makes its return celebrating the city's longstanding commitment to promoting peace, tolerance and friendship.
Running from 1 to 14 November, the festival shines a spotlight on Coventry's international reputation as a City of Peace and Reconciliation.
With a diverse programme of free events and activities, there’s something for everyone – from families to individuals of all ages. Events will take place across Coventry, including the city centre and in local communities.
The festival will feature the Remembrance Sunday Service and Parade at the War Memorial Park on Sunday 10 November at 10:45am. This will be followed by the Communal Grave Service at London Road Cemetery at 3pm.
Other events include the 10,000 Stars for Coventry Workshop where people are invited to make a star for the Coventry Tree and write a peace message, whilst Coventry Welcome Walk will take place on Friday 8 November. Led by EnV volunteers, the informative walk around the city will have a theme around peace and reconciliation.
A highlight of the festival is the annual Poppy Drop, which will be held at 11am on Monday 11 November at West Orchards Shopping Centre. Marking Armistice Day, 4,000 poppies will drop from the centre’s dome during a two-minute silence, paying tribute to those who lost their lives in service.
Councillor Abdul Salam Khan, Deputy Leader of Coventry City Council, said, “It’s truly inspiring to witness the many efforts across our city each year to promote peace and understanding.
“Peace Festival brings together people from all walks of life, faiths, and cultures to celebrate Coventry’s message of peace and reconciliation.
“There are many exciting events to look forward to, organised by local charities and groups. I encourage everyone to join in and take part in this important event, which I hope will inspire many to spread the message of peace even further.”
