A new specialist education school provision in the city takes its next development steps now a contractor has been appointed.
Clegg Construction, known for their design and construction excellence, will be taking possession of the site at the former Woodlands School week beginning Monday 25 November.
The site will rehouse a specialist provision that is currently being delivered by Woodfield School on two separate sites. Children from the primary and secondary schools will be brought together on one site and benefit from specially designed and much-needed additional space.
Seven of the original buildings remain and work will now start to get the school ready for opening. This includes refurbishment of all the interior of the buildings such as new windows and doors, flooring and insulation. Additional play areas and an outdoor forest school will also be provided to enhance the specialist teaching spaces to support the needs of the pupils.
Councillor Dr Kindy Sandhu, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills said: “It’s great that Clegg Construction is on board and will progress this project. I know lots of hard work has already gone into this new school development and although there is still lots more to do, This is going to be fantastic new addition to our city.
“Our goal is for every child in Coventry to have the greatest education possible and this facility will help to deliver this. I have no doubt that the new building will benefit the staff, parents, and students who use it. I’m excited to see the progression of the new site".
The plans are for the new school to open in 2026.
