A new closure order has been served on a shop in the city thanks to more partnership work between Coventry police teams and the local authority.
We previously secured a closure order against Sol's newsagents in Longford Road following concerns about alcohol, tobacco and other items being sold to children.
Since the order expired earlier this year, more concerns have been raised in the community.
As a result, we worked with Trading Standards partners and successfully secured a further closure order.
It’s in place for three months and makes it an offence for anyone not specifically named in the order to attend the premises.
Breaching the closure order is punishable with a fine or imprisonment.
Coventry North East Inspector Gemma Marston said: "We want to send a strong message to the community about how seriously we take anti-social behaviour and crime.
"Thanks to our partners from Coventry City Council, we were able to secure a new closure order against this shop and protect young people.
"We will not tolerate the illegal sale of age-restricted items to children and will continue to prosecute those who think it is acceptable."
Councillor Abdul Salam Khan, Deputy Leader of Coventry City Council, said: “I’m really pleased we have been able to take this action in partnership with the police and other council services.
"We work hard to gather evidence against retailers who believe they are above the law.
“We are always grateful for any information that we receive from the public and will continue to act on community concerns.”
