Team GB judo star and Coventrian, Chelsie Giles, will be leading Team Coventry’s judo athletes at the 2025 International Children’s Games (ICG) in Tallinn, Estonia.
Taking place in August, this marks the first time that Team Coventry will be represented in judo at the Olympic accredited event.
Chelsie, an Olympic medallist in 2021 and European Champion in 2022, said: “I’m incredibly proud to be supporting Team Coventry and coaching the city’s first-ever judo team to head to the International Children’s Games.
“Coventry has given me so much throughout my career and I’m excited to help inspire the next generation of athletes from my hometown. Working with the young athletes and taking them to an international stage is so exciting. I know how it feels to get the first taste of big competition, so I can’t wait to be a part of others’ journeys and helping them experience that.”
Councillor Abdul Salam Khan, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Events, added: “The International Children’s Games is a fantastic opportunity for our young athletes to shine on the global stage. Having Chelsie Giles, one of Coventry’s finest sporting talents, leading our judo team is truly inspiring.
“Her involvement will undoubtedly motivate our young athletes and highlight the incredible talent we have in our city.”
Alongside judo, Team Coventry will also be represented in swimming and girls’ football, supported by the City of Coventry Swimming Club and Sky Blues in the Community, respectively.
The ICG is an exciting opportunity for young athletes to showcase their skills, connect with other young athletes from around the world and represent Coventry on a global platform.
Try-out dates for all three sports will be announced in the new year.
Coventry previously played host to the International Children’s Games in 2022 and has since taken children to Mexico and South Korea to compete in the Games.
Coventry has supported and competed in the Games for almost 30 years.
