No Smoking Day on Wednesday 12 March 2025 is the perfect opportunity for Coventry residents to take a step towards a healthier, smoke-free life.
The good news is people who quit smoking with the support of the local free Stop Smoking Service in Coventry are three times more likely to quit for good.
People aged 12+ who live, work, or are registered with a GP in Coventry are entitled to free support.
Allison Duggal, Director of Public Health at Coventry City Council, was a smoker but managed to quit smoking for good. She said: “I started smoking myself at a young age and it doesn’t surprise me that eight out of 10 smokers started before they turn 20.
“I managed to stop 21 years ago, but I know it is not an easy process for people. We have lots more work to do to help people through the process of stopping. It’s about managing cravings, withdrawals and the reliance that people have with smoking.
“It’s never too late to quit smoking. Even if you’ve tried quitting before, give it another go and set your quit date this No Smoking Day."
Quitting smoking is one of the best things you can do for your health. That’s why this year’s No Smoking Day campaign is encouraging smokers to join the thousands of others who are setting their quit date on 12 March this year.
Councillor Kamran Caan, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Sport, said: “We know how challenging quitting smoking can be, but having the right support makes all the difference.
“Smoking has a huge impact on an individual’s health – quitting can reduce your risk of developing dementia, lung disease, heart disease, cancer and stroke. Stopping smoking also boosts your mental health and wellbeing. We encourage any residents who smoke to get in touch with the free Coventry local stop smoking service, and in doing so, take their first step towards happier, healthier lives.”
