Terms and conditions of use

General Principles

The Council reserves the right to amend these Terms and Conditions of Use without notice and at any time.

By applying for or purchasing any type of parking permit, the applicant:

  • agrees that all the information that they have given in the application process is correct.
  • accepts and agrees to be bound by and comply with the Terms and Conditions of Use which may be amended from time to time.
  • agrees to be bound by and comply with the relevant Traffic Regulation Order.

A medical parking permit will be issued to a member of a designated profession who is correctly registered as a Medical Practitioner with the General Medical Council to assist with visiting patients in streets within resident permits schemes across the City of Coventry.

A Medical Practitioner is responsible for the diagnosis, care and treatment of illnesses, diseases, infections and well-being of patients.

The Council has absolute discretion to revoke and cancel permits without notice, if it believes that the permit has been misused.

No refunds will be given for unused, unwanted or withdrawn/cancelled permits.

Permits are valid from the date of issue until the expiry date unless it has been revoked or cancelled.

The Medical Permit is solely for use in pursuit of the applicant's professional duties.

The Medical Permit allows the medical professional to park in designated permit spaces within the residents parking zones for a maximum continuous period of up to 3 hours. No return is permitted within 3 hours.

The Medical Permit is not for use while the user is working at or visiting their practice or normal place of work.

A Medical Permit does not allow the vehicle to park:

  • On yellow or red lines during their times of operation
  • In limited waiting areas for longer than the time allowed by the parking restriction

Vehicles must be parked in accordance with the parking restrictions at all times.

A permit does not guarantee a place to park the vehicle. It only gives permission to do so in the appropriate zone if space is available

It is an offence to provide false or misleading information when applying for a Medical Permit. Any individual who does so could be liable for a fine of £5,000 and/or imprisonment. Falsely or fraudulently obtaining or possessing a permit will invalidate the permit.

Permits can only be assigned to one vehicle registration number at a time.

It is the permit holder’s responsibility to ensure that the vehicle registration number assigned to the permit is correct. An incorrect vehicle registration number may lead to the issue of a Penalty Charge Notice and a fine of £70.

The permit holder is responsible for renewing the permit in a timely manner.

Data protection and detection of fraud

The Council is required by law to share personal data to help the detection of fraud.

The Council has a duty to protect the public funds it administers and to this end may use the information you have provided in your application for the prevention and detection of fraud. It may also share this information with other bodies responsible for auditing or administering public funds for these purposes.

Medical Permits remain the property of Coventry City Council. The Council retains the right to withdraw permits when they are not used in accordance with the Terms and Conditions.

The Terms and Conditions advertised on the Council’s website will be deemed to be the current valid Terms and Conditions for the use of a Medical Permit.

What is medical permit misuse?

Medical Permit misuse will result in the permit being revoked and cancelled and no refunds will be given.

Use of Medical Permits by anyone other than the permit holder constitutes misuse.

The selling or re-selling of Medical Permits is strictly prohibited and constitutes misuse.

Reproducing, copying, defacing or altering a Medical Permit in any way constitutes misuse and the permit will not be valid for use.

Anyone who is responsible for the misuse of a permit will not be eligible for permits or allowed to park within the residents’ parking scheme and the vehicle will be issued with a fine of £70 if they do.

Who can apply for a medical permit?

Any Medical Practitioner who is correctly registered and certified with the General Medical Council.

What documentation is required with the application?

  • A copy of your Medical Certificate.
  • Proof of your work address.
  • A copy of the DVLA (V5) registration document which must show the name, address and vehicle details of the applicant.

If you drive a lease car you will need to present a letter from the supplier on their headed notepaper and signed by an official of the supplier. The letter must contain the vehicle details and your name and address.
