Phase 3 will begin the week commencing 11 November and is expected to take approximately 4-5 weeks. This work includes

  • Kerbing amendments to the four existing splitter islands
  • Installing the ducting and infrastructure for the new traffic signals within the island itself
  • Installation of the vehicle restraint barrier

Phase 2 of the work has started and the traffic management has now changed to the inbound side with a right-hand lane closure.

The work includes:

  • Construction of a new segregated cycleway and footway which will run to the south of the roundabout along the outside
  • The construction of a retaining wall will follow this to support the new cycleway.
  • Lane closures will continue on A444 northbound and on Foleshill Road.

Phase 1 of work to improve the Blue Ribbon roundabout started on Tuesday 6 August. This work includes:

  • Improved crossings for pedestrians and cyclists
  • Relocation of the traffic lights so that they are nearer to the roundabout
  • Improved traffic lights on the roundabout to ensure a smoother flow of traffic and reduce queuing

The current traffic management will be in place until early September.  This will then change as the second phase of work commences and will be ongoing until the end of October / early November 2024.

The Blue Ribbon traffic improvement scheme consists of eight stages, these include:

  • Phase 1 - traffic light and crossing  improvement works
  • Phase 2 – works to southern side of the roundabout
  • Phases 3 and 4 – making amendments to the splitter island
  • Phases 5 and 6 – Night time road re-surfacing - this will mean half roundabout road closures will be in place
  • Phase 7 – Remove existing pedestrian crossings
  • Phase 8 – surfacing to new pavements and cycleways

The improvements are funded by the Government’s City Regional Sustainable Transport Settlement and are the first phase of wider plans to improve the connection between the city centre and the Blue Ribbon roundabout for pedestrians and cyclists. Work on the roundabout will take place between 7.30am and 4.30pm Monday to Friday. There may be some occasional weekend and evening work.

There will need to be a range of traffic management during the work, this includes lane closures and temporary traffic lights.

We expect to complete the work in Spring 2025.
