We are now getting ready to start installing the route includes:
- Warwick Road to Pool Meadow bus station via Corporation Street
- the Trinity Street/Burges loop
- Bishop Street to Ring Road Junction 1
- New Union Street to Ring Road Junction 5.
Following feedback there are some changes to the proposals and the route has now been extended to include Croft Road and Upper Well Street.
Spon Street, Palmer Lane, Chauntry Place and New Buildings will no longer be part of the Restricted Parking Zone and the waiting restrictions will be marked out with double yellow lines and parking bays in those areas.
A red route means that where there are double red lines marked on the road, along the kerb line, no stopping is allowed at any time, even to drop off or pick up passengers or deliveries.
Red routes help keep traffic flowing and reduce congestion. The route will be enforced using ANPR traffic cameras which capture the registration numbers of vehicles that stop or park illegally. The restrictions will not apply to emergency service vehicles. All other vehicles need to use specific parking bays which will be clearly signed and marked on the road.
A bus gate is also proposed on Greyfriars Road near the junction with Sheriffs Orchard junction and this means you will not be able go past the junction in either direction. Additionally, we will be doing a bit of extra work at Greyfriars Green starting in August, to formalise the shared cycle route from the train station to Earlsdon. This will involve works from the subway underpass to Greyfriars Green, removing the existing cycleway to become shared use, and then widening and resurfacing the pathway back towards station.
We will soon be advertising the Traffic Regulation Orders for the bus gate and the red route on the Traffic Regulation Orders page [https://www.coventry.gov.uk/roads-highways-pavements/traffic-regulation-orders/2]. This is your final chance to make any comments.
To implement the red route, we need to reduce the size of the current city centre restricted parking zone. This will mean that in some streets where yellow lines were removed, you will see them re-introduced. This will be done later this year and at the same time that we start installing the red route.
