Purpose of the consultation
The school admissions code states that when admission authorities propose changes to their current admission arrangements, they must consult on those changes for a minimum of six weeks. This consultation period allows parents, other schools, religious authorities and the local community to raise any concerns about their proposed admission arrangements.
Local Authority consultations
Birmingham City Council’s consultation on its proposed admissions arrangements and proposed published admissions numbers for its Community and Voluntary Controlled Schools for the 2026/2027 academic year finished on Monday 25 November 2024. Birmingham City Council are now facilitating the consultation on proposed admissions arrangements for those Birmingham schools that are their own admission authorities.
This consultation starts on Monday 25 November 2024 and finishes on Monday 6 January 2025.

Warwickshire County Council is consulting on its Admission Arrangements, Coordinated Scheme and In Year Admissions Process for 2026-2027.
The proposed changes being consulted on for the 2026/27 academic year are:
- the reduction of the published admission number at a local authority maintained junior school;
- the inclusion of the process for dealing with applications where there is parental dispute;
- the inclusion of who can apply for a school place;
- clarification on the processing of applications for UK Service Personnel under the military covenant;
- clarification on the processing of applications for children from overseas;
- updated processes for education out of year group requests

The consultation period began Monday 25 November 2024 and finishes on Sunday 19 January 2025.
