Coventry City Council’s CCTV control centre (Coventry Control Centre) provides an open and transparent approach to public space CCTV across Coventry and also use redeployable cameras for the detection of flytipping.
Why we process this information
We process this information to use CCTV images for crime and prevention and prosecution of offenders. We are also registered with the Information Commissioners Office, registration number Z6007528.
We process the flytipping data in accordance to:
The Environmental Protection Act 1990
The Environment Act 1995
The Refuse Disposal Amenity Act 1978
The lawful basis for processing is:
- Section 163 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994
- Crime and Disorder Act 1998
- Protection of Freedoms Act 2012
- In certain circumstances – Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act
All data is dealt with in line with the GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018.
What information we proces
We process images from the CCTV system.
Who we share your personal information with
The data will be shared with:
- West Midlands Police Service
- Third Party request companies – Insurance, HMRC, Legal Bodies.
- Internal Services
How long will keep your information for
We hold personal data (images) from the CCTV system for a period of 31 days after which time the system automatically overwrites it. Where incidents are brought to our attention then personal data may be held for a longer period, in particular where offences have been reported and are under investigation.

Complaints
You have the right to submit a complaint if you are unhappy with the way your request is handled or disagree with a decision made by the council regarding your data.
