What an owner can do with an empty home
An empty property could be costing the owner over £10,000 a year in expenses and lost income. There are a number of choices. Which one you choose will depend on the type of property you own and your own personal circumstances.
Selling your property
We advise all owners of such properties to ensure that they consult an estate agent or auction house to ensure they can get the best value for their property. We will not give out a list of empty homes to private individuals or developers.
Letting your property
You may wish to rent the property. You can contact a letting agent who will manage the tenancies and property for you.
If you use a letting agent you may wish to consider using an agent registered with Property Mark to ensure high professional standards for letting agents. In any case, make sure the Letting Agent is a member of a Redress Scheme and displays all of its charges.
If you do not use an agent, make sure you understand the laws about renting out property and the standards the house must meet. You may also need planning permission from us if you are changing the use of the property or building regulation permission if you carry out building work.
