Outline of the consultation process

  1. This report considers the feedback gathered from the first phase of consultation which took place between 15 February 2023 and 7 July 2023.
  2. The key outcome of this phase of consultation was to gather feedback on the Climate Change Strategy, to understand resident and organisations’ priorities, and find out if anything should be added or amended within the strategy and if there were any specific actions for consideration in the developing Action Plan.
  3. To do this, we provided a variety of options to seek peoples’ views and comments regarding the Strategy both online and face to face. We recognised that people needed to be given an opportunity to comment at a basic level or if they so chose, in more depth. To facilitate this a public facing ‘Facing up to Climate Change’ brief six-page Strategy document was produced along with a more detailed 60 plus full Strategy document for those who would like to see the detail and comment upon that.
  4. The former took the form of a Let’s Talk Survey which asked a small number of key questions which were completed in person, at drop-in sessions in venues like libraries, shopping centres and large public events such as Motofest and Godiva or online via the website.
  5. We recognised that people would like to respond in different ways, some to give general comments about a proposal whilst others would like to respond in very specific detail either verbally in meetings, through activities with younger people or in writing.
  6. Additionally, more detailed daytime and evening webinars were undertaken for each pathway theme as well as attendance at special interest groups which yielded more detailed insightful comments as set out in Table 1 below:

  1. This executive summary report provides an overview of the responses received over the consultation period, which is based on the collation of a number of separate survey reports that have been produced to reflect the various engagement activities set out in Table 1 as above.
  2. The feedback received has been summarised and themed into the 5 pathways, alongside the Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan and grouped into sub-themes around key issues such as Transport, Housing, Waste, Biodiversity, etc., to bring together the feedback in an insightful way.
