One Coventry Services Consultation Proposal - Relocation of Canley Library
What is the proposal?
The proposal is to relocate services provided at Canley library (currently located at Prior Deram Walk, Canley, Coventry CV4 8FT) to the Xcel Leisure Centre (Mitchell Ave, Coventry, CV4 8DY). An outreach family hub offer would also be provided at the Xcel Leisure Centre. Bringing services together to deliver them in a more joined-up way and develop a One Coventry Community Hub.
Which services would be impacted?
This proposal will initially include and impact on:
- Canley Library Service (and services delivering sessions from this space)
- Mosaic Family Hub
What would the difference be?
Indoor and outdoor leisure facilities would continue to be provided by CV Life at the Xcel Leisure Centre as they are now. Services currently provided from Canley Library, which is in poor condition, would be relocated to the Xcel Leisure Centre. It is likely that the space the library will occupy in the proposed new location would have smaller dimensions than the current library provision. In moving location this may mean changes in service provision including:
- Fewer library books available (however a wide range of books would still be made available)
- The possibility of fewer public access computers (however efforts will be made to maintain the same number of public access computers where this is possible.)
- Increased use of self-service facilities
Libraries are a statutory service based on the 1964 Public Libraries and Museum Act and this proposal delivers access to a comprehensive and efficient library service.
An outreach Family Hub offer would be delivered at the Xcel Leisure Centre to extend the current offer provided by the Mosaic Family Hub which is located in Tile Hill.
